How does each season always seems to sneak up on me? I forget the feeling of a 90 degree summer day as it rolls around and the bitter chill of a snowy day when we get the first snowfall. Fall feels as though it is constantly fighting between holding onto the long summer days and relenting to the chill of winter at night. The turmoil between the two seasons can wreak havoc with style.

There are a couple fashion staples that I get to reintroduce to myself every change of the seasons. Although the changing of the seasons feels like an eternity at times, transitioning from summer to fall doesn’t have to be difficult, as long as you remember these simple, fall style fundamentals.

1. EVOLVE THROUGH FALL WITH LOTS AND LOTS OF LAYERS

A warm (or even hot fall day) can quickly turn into a cold night. Wearing layers such as a fitted tee, with a button up shirt, can provide the perfect switch when you are on the go throughout the day.

“Wearing pieces and outfit combinations that never go out of style (e.g., a black turtleneck, straight-leg jeans, and ankle boots) ensures you’ll never look like you’re trying too hard. Effortlessness is key for timeless style.” —Who What Wear

2. INFUSE YOUR FALL STYLE WITH A MIXTURE OF TEXTURES

When you look at the forecast and begin to layer your clothes for the day, think about the types of fabric you are putting together. A button-up flannel shirt will feel very different than a light denim button-up. Plan accordingly and dress for the weather with textures.

3. MIRROR THE COLORS OF THE SEASON IN YOUR WARDROBE

Each season produces its color palette naturally throughout nature. Pay attention to the colors that fall seasons around you and match your wardrobe. Sweet mustard yellows, vibrant oranges, and deep burgundy hues are beautiful colors seen throughout the landscape. They are gorgeous colors to have in your wardrobe. Don’t let the leaves have all of the fun!

4. DON’T GO OVERBOARD ON ACCESSORIES

The ingredients for timeless style in any season include tasteful accessories. The key is not to go overboard with them. A high quality, simple leather bag can make any outfit look more luxurious and pulled together.
